Following a recent change to Michigan law, condominium owners are now able to take legal action against the condominium association to which they belong. In a recent case handled by Femminineo Law, we took advantage of this new legislation and secured a meaningful financial recovery for our client.
On a typical morning in April of 2025, our client was exiting his condo to retrieve his mail. As he placed his right foot on the porch step, the deteriorated concrete shifted and gave out from under him. He was thrown off of the defective step face-first into the brick walkway leading to his front door. He suffered a deep laceration to his hand, a broken nose, and unbeknownst to him at the time, bilateral intracranial bleeding.
After receiving emergency care for his visible injuries, it became clear that something more serious was wrong. Approximately 9 months post-accident, we filed suit against the condominium association that was responsible for maintaining the step on which he fell. After months of tense negotiations and facilitation, we managed to secure a $375,000 settlement. This payout covered the entirety of his medical treatment and will ensure that our client and his wife can live comfortably for years to come.
