Case Highlight: This month we’ll be looking at a case where a man stopped to help others and was tragically killed in a roadside crash. We secured over $540,000 to protect the family he left behind.

We live in a self-centered, individualistic society. People rarely take the time to stop and consider how their actions might affect others. There are, however, a small number of individuals who exhibit an innate sense of duty to their neighbors.

These people perform acts of selflessness not because they have to, but because their moral compass won’t allow them to turn a blind eye. Unfortunately, one of these upstanding members of our community was tragically taken from us while serving some of his fellow metro-Detroiters. This is the story of how we handled his wrongful death case and ensured security and comfort for those he left behind.

On a December night like any other, our client’s brother was traveling eastbound on I-96. After observing the aftermath of a recent collision on the side of the highway, he altruistically decided to stop and offer help. Once he stopped and exited his vehicle, another car slammed into his, leaving our client’s brother critically injured. Despite efforts to save his life, he passed away due to his injuries.

Our client’s brother was a father and proud member of his community. His son, an honors student at the University of Michigan, was unfortunately present during this horrific accident. Knowing what trauma he endured and the support he’d need to keep his life on track, the stakes were crystal clear. A win wouldn’t just line the pockets of opportunistic family members. It would enable the continuation of a legacy in jeopardy.

Knowing what was on the line, we relentlessly pursued compensation from all angles. After engaging in a 1st party, 3rd party, and Underinsured Motorist lawsuit, we managed to recover over $540,000 for our client. While nothing can undo the tragedy of that fateful night, this policy limit payout delivered a measure of justice and will help honor the memory of a man who lived selflessly for others.
